Fantastic!!
There is an old saying that say's, "If I fish for you today, you eat today but if I teach you to fish you eat forever." Brooke Siler has gone above and beyond with, The Women's Health Big Book of Pilates! She has provided the tools, in this book, for everyone to do Pilates (or eat forever) by utilizing the, easy to read and follow guidelines. The colorful pictures speak for themselves. Being a long time Pilates Instructor the book is exciting and fresh to me. Brooke has a way with words!Brooke teaches us to fish for ourselves in this book. Love this book!

The BEST resource for Pilates practitioners of ALL levels!
As a long time Pilates instructor, I have found it difficult when students ask for a book reference, to point them to a good, reputable source for classic Pilates. The only book I have ever recommended up until now is The Pilates Body by Brooke Siler. This new book, also written by Brooke Siler, is amazing. It includes information for all levels of practitioners, in an easy-to-use format with great pictures! I love everything about this book, and have recommended it both to my students and to anyone looking to start, or further deepen, their own Pilates practice.

Excellent, detailed, well-organized
This book is excellent! I also own Brooke Siler's other book, "The Pilates Body", which was my original introduction to Pilates years ago. I had thought that was the only book I'd ever need about Pilates, but I was wrong! This new book goes above & beyond. The first few chapters are for people new to Pilates -- she gives a detailed background about founder Joseph Pilates, her own training, and answers common questions about it and explains how it gets you fit.
The next section is "Pilates for your Plate," which teaches you how to eat healthy. Then is a chapter on technique -- do not skip this chapter! It explains how to do the exercises with proper form. She also includes several modifications, such as for low-back problems or knee problems.

The next section, "Pilates on the Mat: The Series," is divided up into 4 levels, of increasing advancement. So you can start with the level you feel most comfortable. The way the exercises are illustrated is...

From Women's Health contributor and yoga expert Kathryn Budig-the essential, authoritative guide to yoga, for beginners and beyond.

Approximately 16 millions Americans now practice yoga on a regular basis. Devotees can't rave enough about this ancient art of meditation, breathing, and physical postures that calms the mind and slims the body.

Unlike fitness fads, yoga is worth the hype. The postures stretch and tone lean muscle mass and sculpt a strong and slender physique-burning up to 400 calories in a 90-minute session. But yoga does something even better. It's proven to reduce the biggest cause of weight gain-stress-which 43% of Americans say makes them overeat.

This definitive volume features:

- every essential pose to help readers lose weight and transform their bodies

- Total Body Yoga: targeted workouts in 15 minutes or less

- core-strengthening routines for hotter, more satisfying sex

- a healthy, mindful eating plan centered around calming, cleansing foods

Covering everything from basic postures to relaxation techniques to avoiding common injuries, The Women's Health Big Book of Yoga is the only guide readers need to achieve their fittest, healthiest, happiest selves.

Review :
Wonderful Yoga Encyclopedia
I just got this book today, so I haven't had a chance to go through every single page, but I am so impressed! It includes:

* a brief overview of the history of yoga
* language of yoga
* benefits of yoga
* answers to common questions on yoga
* touches on some of the deeper spiritual aspects of yoga (enough to give a taste of it, but not to overwhelm)
* how yoga keeps you fit
* conscious eating and even includes a sample meal plan with a few recipes!

That's just the first 40 pages :) THEN the book goes onto:

* a thorough break down of every essential yoga pose with beautiful photographic spreads that have anatomical cues
* fun 15 minute sequences you can do at home to target different parts of the body (ie.legs, arms, butt, etc...), special health-focused sequences (ie. pms, hangover, carpal tunnel, back pain, etc...), performance sequences (ie. basketball, golf, climbing, etc.), emotional health (ie. anxiety,...
Critical Review From an Experienced Instructor
Summary:

This book is dangerous. I’m honestly concerned that someone will hurt themselves with this book.
This book would get torn apart in a peer review, like what I'm doing. The author is a contributing magazine editor. That alone raises some flags on its purpose and credibility.
This book should not have been written. It adds nothing to the subject of yoga and is intended purely to reap profit from buyers. Practitioners are better off not using it.
Far better options exist for yoga books. My favorite being David Swenson’s http://www.amazon.com/Ashtanga-Yoga-The-Practice-Manual/dp/1891252089/ref=tmm_other_meta_binding_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1362513861&sr=8-3

Issues with this Book:

• Way too pro-yoga. Yoga is not a panacea for every mental and physical woe, though this book suggests it is. You won't suddenly fix your health problems, chronic anxiety, or get ripped muscles. It can certainly help with those, but the book...
Just what you need
I teach yoga and a student brought a copy to class to ask my opinion. I spent some time with it and discovered that Kathryn Budig has created a book very much like herself--it's practical, informative, and downright entertaining. She appreciates the fact that many woman have incorporated yoga into their lives for all kinds of practical reasons, but mainly because it makes them feel good. She provides all of the basic information a beginner or an experienced yogini might need about the many questions that can arise during your practice, and has also shown how to use some of the various poses as a remedy for many of the common challanges we face in our daily lives. If you're interested, she has covered pretty much the full gamut of yoga topics (breathing techniques, dealing with injuries, meditation, "I'm not flexible", etc.) and you can pick and choose to read about those that pique your curiosity. The photography is stunning, and the photos are of real people who have developed...

Research shows that building muscle helps the body burn more calories 24/7 and that resistance training is the most effective way to torch body fat. Yet that message is still lost on many women who fear that weight lifting will make them bulky, turn their skin green, and give them Incredible Hulk muscles like their boyfriends'. Women have more options than step aerobics or running on a treadmill to shed pounds: They can weight-train in a very specific manner designed to make the most of a woman's unique physiology.

Lift to Get Lean
is the first beginner's guide to strength training from Women's Health that is written specifically for women by a woman. Holly Perkins is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) who has been teaching the fat-burning secrets of weight training exclusively to women for more than 20 years. Perkins doesn't follow men's rules when it comes to building muscle. Her Lift to Get Lean delivers a three-step system: Technique, Movement Speed, and the Last 2 Reps Rule, which make all the difference in developing the kind of strong, lean, and sexy body women want. Perkins offers four different 90-day training programs that efficiently build functional strength along with leaner legs, stronger arms, and a sexier butt.

Highly Recommended for Women with gym Access & Consistency--Long, Thorough Review!
The first aspect of the book that I liked is that the introduction covers how strength training is different for women, which is exactly why I was looking for a female author on the topic. At the beginning of “Part I: The Foundation,” her journey into fitness, and how she optimized a strength training routine is covered. In “The Secret to Getting Lean for Life,” she covers deeper motivation to stay on track. In “A New System Designed Precisely for Women” she answered my major question, which was: “Do I need a gym membership in order to do the program(s) in this book? The answer: yes! Her reasoning is that you need progressive resistance and specific equipment i.e. a leg curl machine. This program cannot be easily modified for a few sets of weights. “Why Strength Training Matters to Your Health” she cites studies that show how gaining muscle mass is beneficial to your overall health like having a higher metabolic rate, increases in...

Before you buy this book, know this: it requires a gym membership. Great advice and workouts!

An Amazing Workout Plan For Women
I have started this plan and was super sore after my first workout, and I do strength training on a regular basis as it is! So far I think this is an amazing plan. I love the way she really customizes everything for the woman's body. Trust me, she doesn't dumb it down for women, instead she customizes it for our bodies which are different from men's.
The reasons I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it would be nice to be able to submit questions to Holly regarding the plan. For instance, my gym doesn't have the prone position leg curl machine, just the seated leg curl machine, so it would be nice to be able to ask if there would be any modifications for that machine. Also, There are a couple of exercises where I question where she placed the "pause," after the "easy" instead of after the "hard." I tried to access the videos at both Holly's website and the Women's Health website and couldn't find them. Otherwise, I think this is an amazing plan and...

What does an elephant do? It stomps its foot. Can you? From the creator of such beloved classics as The Grouchy Ladybug and The Mixed-Up Chameleon comes this interactive story that invites kids to imitate animal movements. Watching giraffes bend their necks or monkeys wave their arms is fun, but nothing could be better than joining in. From their heads down to their toes, kids will be wriggling, jiggling, and giggling as they try to keep up with these animals!Alligators wiggle, elephants stop, gorillas thump, and giraffes bend. Can you do it? ‘ I can do it!’ is the confidence-building message of this fun-filled interactive picture book. A variety of familiar animals invite young children to copy their antics, and as they play, they will learn such important skills as careful listening, focusing attention, and following instructions. Just as alphabet books introduce the very young child to letters and simple words, From Head to Toe introduces the basic body parts and simple body movements. And in the same way that children progress from understanding simple words to reading and writing sentences and stories, so they will progress from simple body movements to dancing, gymnastics, and other sports and activities, with confidence and pleasure.

Eric Carle's colorful collages have delighted children for more than a generation. Each book provides hours of fun while encouraging them to stretch their imaginations. His matchless words and illustrations now send out a new challenge:

Review :
One of Eric Carle's best!
This is a fantastic book! The large, colorful pictures and the simple, clear text keep children bending and stretching right along with the animals! Still, unlike many of the reviewers who loved this for their one-year-olds, we found that this book didn't work for my active, not very verbal daughter when she was one (even though she sat for other books). We pulled it out again around the time she turned 2 and she LOVED IT. This book was a huge hit. Now at almost 4 it is still one of her favorites. Even if she's tired at bedtime she gets on the floor to do her donkey kicks along with the donkey! My older daughter also reported that this was one of her preschool teacher's favorite storytime books. I would say that for many children this book, despite it's deceptively simple pictures and text, is more appropriate for older children (age 2-4). This is a book I buy all the time for 2nd birthdays - It's always a hit! (especially good for active kids who prefer being...
What an entertaining book...!
My 16-month old daughter loves to turn her head, wave her arms, raise her shoulders, with the colorful animals in this book. Excellent book to teach children body parts, movements and animals. (She surprised us one day by thumping her chest when she saw a gorilla picuture somewhere else.) I also read this book to her classmates in a play group and they all loved it, too. Have fun "bending your knees" with your kids!

Great Shower Gift! Book Interests Babies at Many Levels!
I read FROM HEAD TO TOE to my baby, who is now 10 months old, and to a good friend's child, who is about 22 months old. Both enjoy it!

FROM HEAD TO TOE, like all of Eric Carle's books, offers multiple kinds of learning in one book. The first page shows a penguin saying "I am a penguin and I turn my head. Can you do it?" On the facing page, a girl has turned her heaed and answers, "I can do it!" We proceed through the book, going all the way down the body: head, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, chest, back, hips, knees, legs, foot, toes. At the same time, we meet an assortment of very appealing pictures of animals and learn their names: penguin, giraffe, buffalo, monkey, seal, gorilla, cat, crocodile, camel, donkey, elephant, and parrot.

I love that in the last pairing, the child takes action first: "I am I and I wiggle my toe. Can you do it?" This is followed by a parrot who copies the child wiggling his toe and says, "I can do it! I can do it!"

At our...
